About Ian Mainsbridge
| Ian Mainsbridge is one of Australia's leading
marine photographers, arguably the best. He learnt his trade
whilst in the employ of Sir Frank Packer (Australian Consolidated
Press). He worked as a Press Photographer from 1963 until 1972
on publications such as the Daily/Sunday Telegraph,
The Bulletin and Woman's Weekly. |
| In 1972 he joined Rupert Murdoch's News Ltd as a
Press Photographer on the Daily/Sunday Telegraph specialising
in the coverage of Royal Tours, Papal Tours, the Gallipolli
Veterans return, Kay Cottee's Round the World Trip and especially,
all forms of yacht racing. He left News Ltd in 1990 to form
his own photography business.

| In the 35 years that Ian has been involved in
marine photography he has covered every Americas Cup beginning
with Sir Frank Packer's challenge with 'Gretel' in 1963. and every
Sydney-Hobart. Other major events covered during that time include
the Clipper Cup (Hawaii '78 -99), Kenwood Cup, Whitbread Round The
World Race, BOC Around Alone Race, BT Global Challenge, Admirals Cup,
Sydney - Southport, Pittwater - Coffs, Coffs Race Week,
Marina Mirage Port Douglas Regatta, Joico Hayman Island
Big Boat Series, Hamilton Island Race Week, Gosford - Lord Howe Island,
18' Grand Prix Circuit, 18' League Series and more recently
Pre Olympic Games Regattas. |
| Ian is a member of a number of yacht clubs including
the C.Y.C.A., 18' Flying Squad, M.HY.C., Middle Harbour16'Skiff Club,
Royal Motor Yacht Club (Newport) Waikiki Y.C. Royal Hawaiian O.R.C.
and the Society of International Nautical Scribes (SINS). |
